History of Shenley Brook End

The village name “Shenley” originates from an Old English Language word that means “bright clearing”. Furthermore, historians have discovered that the area was referred to as “Senelai” in the Domesday Book of 1086. The construction of the Mansell family manor in Shenley Brook End created the distinction between Brook End and the Church End in the 12th century. However, by the end of 1426, one person became the sole owner of the two manors, leaving the distinction between the two places only in name.
