Development

The Milton Keynes Shopping Centre began development in 1973. The grade II level building The Centre:mk opened in September 1979 by then-Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and housed 130 shops. It was the largest building in Central Milton Keynes and was built at almost the highest point in the “New City”.

Then in 2000, the Midsummer Place opened to the public. The addition of the Midsumer Place earned the shopping complex the title of being ‘The Longest Shopping Mall in the World’. With a size of 120, 773 square metres, the Milton Keynes Shopping Centre ranks as the 14th largest shopping center in the UK. Midsummer Place was bought by Intu Properties in March 2013 and was renamed intu Milton Keynes Shopping Center. However, the mall’s original name was reinstated by the new owners in April 2021.

Shopping and Dining

You will find almost every popular fashion retailer at Thecenter:mk from popular high street brands like Primark, Topshop, Marks & Spencer, Dune, Next, Pandora, Swarovski, River Island, and Harrods Beauty.

And if all that walking and rack-raiding tires you out, you can stop by The Centre:mk’s various food retailers like Starbucks, McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, Ned’s Noodle Bar, Nando’s, and Costa to refuel your energy.

Premier shopping centre Midsummer Place is home to 50 retailers including Next Beauty & Home, H&M, LEGO, Jack Wills, Hollister, Superdry, Tesla, and Apple to name a few. Tommy Hilfiger will also be opening a store at Midsummer Place soon as well.

The Centre:mk’s multi-story parking lot situated behind John Lewis & Partners on Marlborough Gate for as little as £1 for 2 hours. Remember to use MK9 3QA. The Centre:mk’s features 1400 parking spaces including electric vehicle charging points, 80 disabled bays, and 64 parent and child bays. On the other side, Midsummer Place boasts 730 parking spaces equipped with electric charging bays. They also have a sustainable and iconic ‘living wall’ across its entrance and ramps.

The Centre:mk has an award-winning Guest Services Lounge which features facilities like baby-changing tables, child-sized toilets and sinks, private areas for feeding, bottle warmers and microwaves to ensure a pleasurable experience for mothers and their little ones.

Aside from these facilities for mothers and children, Milton Keynes Shopping Center also has dedicated toilets for disabled guests. They also have a Sunflower Lanyard Scheme, which communicates to staff that the disabled guest requires additional support or help while shopping.

Scooters are also available for hire at £2 per day for shopper mobility. Milton Keynes Shopping Centre also has a range of wheelchairs that can be loaned free of charge. However, to avail of a wheelchair, you must pre-book with the centre in advance.

Shops at The Centre:mk opens at 9am and closes at 8pm through Monday to Friday, 9am to 7pm on Saturday, and 11am until 4pm on Sunday. Restaurants at The Centre:mk are open until 10pm daily.
